I picked this book up at a time when I kept starting things and never finishing them. When I had dreams I couldn’t seem to reach — not because the world was stopping me, but because something inside me kept pulling me back.
I didn’t have a word for it then. Brianna Wiest gave me one.
Self-sabotage.
Not the dramatic kind you see in movies. The quiet kind. The kind that looks like procrastination, like perfectionism, like suddenly getting very busy right when something important is about to happen. The kind that feels like laziness but is actually fear wearing a disguise.
PULLQUOTE: “The mountain is not the obstacle. The mountain is you. That sentence changed something in me.”
What this book does — and it does it gently, without judgment — is show you that every self-destructive pattern you have makes sense. It developed for a reason. It protected you once. And now it’s the mountain standing between you and the life you actually want.
This is not a book that tells you to just think positive or try harder. It’s a book that asks you to look honestly at yourself — and then offers you a way through.
Have you ever caught yourself getting in your own way? Tell me in the comments. 🖤
