The Let Them Theory — The Most Liberating Two Words I’ve Ever Read

Let them.

That’s it. That’s the whole thing.

I know how simple it sounds. I thought the same when I first heard it. But Mel Robbins took two words and turned them into something I hadn’t been able to articulate for years.

You cannot force anyone to change. You cannot convince someone to take the path that seems so obvious to you. You cannot love someone into becoming who you need them to be. Every person has to reach their own moment — that quiet internal click — where something shifts and they decide for themselves.

Let them.

PULLQUOTE: “Let them find their own way. And then — let yourself be free too.”

I see it with children. With teenagers especially. You watch them make choices you wouldn’t make, walk roads you know are harder than they need to be. And every instinct in you wants to pull them back, show them the easier way, protect them from what’s coming.

But the easier way is only easier because it’s yours. It was built for your life, your lessons, your path. It doesn’t fit theirs.

Let them find their own.

And here is what nobody tells you about letting go — it’s not giving up. It’s not indifference. It’s one of the most loving things you can do. Because it says: I trust you enough to let you become who you are, not who I think you should be.

Is there someone in your life you need to let go of controlling? Tell me in the comments. 🖤
